Overview

The Overview section establishes the words, the model, and the boundaries. "Device" sits next to "host", "runtime", "principal", "Space", and "grant" in the Matrix vocabulary, and conflating any two of them produces broken code and broken UI copy.

Pages in this section

  • Device model — the formal definition of a Device, its three identity fields, and what system.devices actually exposes.
  • Device vs host — Host (process supervisor) versus Device (linked compute participant). Why we keep them separate even though one Host install is one Device today.
  • Device vs runtime — a Device has runtimes; a runtime hosts actors. The address of an actor is logical, not the management path of its Device.
  • Device pairing — the high-level shape of the pairing ceremony before drilling into individual flows.
  • Device grants — what gets minted at the end of a successful pairing: the Host Link record, the heartbeat token, and the device-scoped NATS credential.
